China to Provide 100 Electric Luxury Buses to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, has stated that steps are being taken to deliver 100 modern, luxury electric buses to Sri Lanka in the near future.

The Ambassador made these remarks yesterday (22) evening following an audience with the Most Venerable Mahanayake Theras of the Malwathu and Asgiriya Chapters.

Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong paid courtesy calls yesterday on the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Nikaya, and the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera, Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter.

The Ambassador stated that China is prepared to donate 100 electric buses, valued at approximately US dollars 225,000, as part of efforts to reduce air pollution in Sri Lanka.

He also noted that China is ready to extend continued assistance for Sri Lanka’s reconstruction and recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.

The Ambassador further recalled that six Chinese experts on road development and bridge reconstruction had recently arrived in Sri Lanka.

He added that several bridges in the Badulla and Nuwara Eliya areas have already been repaired, and expressed confidence that work on the remaining bridges will commence shortly with the support of the Chinese Government.
