COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have released a detailed breakdown of the country’s crime‑prevention and narcotics‑control operations for 2025, highlighting a year marked by intensified investigations, large‑scale searches and record‑setting drug seizures.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, disclosed the statistics during an official briefing.
According to ASP Wootler, over 8.2 million members of the public were subjected to inspections, searches, and questioning on reasonable suspicion during 2025.
These checks, conducted across the island, enabled police to identify 6,836 individuals required for further action in connection with various offences.
A significant portion of the year’s law‑enforcement efforts focused on narcotics.
ASP Wuttler revealed that in 2025, police seized:
1,821 kilograms and 174 grams of heroin
17,189 kilograms of cannabis
3,865 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice)
Nearly 4 million illicit pills
