Coast Guard Seizes Rs. 370 Mn Worth of Narcotics in 2025

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), working in close coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, seized illegal narcotics worth over Rs. 370 million during 2025, arresting 71 suspects linked to maritime smuggling networks.

According to official reports, the SLCG collaborated with the Sri Lanka Navy, Police, Police Narcotics Bureau, State Intelligence Service, and the Police STF, sharing intelligence and conducting joint operations to curb drug trafficking via sea routes.

The seizures included:

Over 5 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine)
710 kg of Kerala cannabis
205 kg of local cannabis
2 kg of Hashish
970 pregabalin capsules
5,054 Madana Modaka pills
2,933 foreign cigarettes
9,800 kg of Kendu leaves

In addition, authorities intercepted 60,794 packets and bottles of agricultural chemicals being smuggled into the country illegally.

During these operations, 19 local boats were confiscated, and all suspects were handed over to relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
