COLOMBO(News 1st); Navy Spokesperson confirmed that 20 passengers in the bus that was caught in a flash flood in Rajanganaya have been safely rescued.
Earlier yesterday, A bus from Jaffna carrying about 70 passengers was caught in a flash flood in Rajanganaya.
Rescue operations commenced promptly after the incident and SLAF deployed a Bell 212 helicopter to rescue the passengers.
However, due to the adverse weather conditions, Bell 212 helicopter couldn't reach the location of the incident and Sri Lanka Navy stepped into rescue operations.
After continuous operations, Sri Lanka Navy rescued 20 passengers.
Operations to rescue the rest of the passengers are ongoing.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also Visited the Air Force Headquarters last night(28) to oversee the Air Force operations to rescue affected individuals and providing relief.
