COLOMBO (News 1st); The death toll from disasters caused by relentless rains has risen to 33, with 14 people still missing, according to the latest report from the Disaster Management Center (DMC).
The situation, which began on November 17, continues to escalate as landslides and floods wreak havoc across the island.
The highest number of fatalities – 19 deaths – has been reported from Badulla District.
At least 10 individuals have sustained injuries in incidents linked to landslides and other rain-related disasters.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any emergency situations to the 117 hotline.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed all district officials to accelerate rescue operations and ensure uninterrupted relief services.
