COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Irrigation has warned of a potential risk of flash floods during sudden heavy rainfall, as water levels in major rivers have risen significantly.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology announced that heavy rainfall is expected across six provinces from today until the 30th of this month.

Due to a developing low-pressure zone near the southern Andaman Sea, heavy showers are forecast in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Southern, Uva, and Western Provinces.

The Irrigation Department stated that, based on past experiences and current river behavior patterns, there is a high risk of flash floods during periods of intense rainfall in these areas.

Accordingly, residents in low-lying regions across the island are advised to remain vigilant and pay close attention to flood warnings and weather updates.
