COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Defence has announced that the monthly parental allowance provided to parents of soldiers who sacrificed their lives or were disabled in active service has been temporarily suspended for 17,000 recipients.
In a statement, the Ranaviru Seva Authority clarified that the suspension was due to the failure to submit annual life certificates, which confirm that beneficiaries are still living.
Parents can restore their benefits by presenting a Grama Niladhari-certified life certificate, ensuring eligibility for the allowance.
The deadline for submission is February 28 next year, and officials stressed that presenting the certificate within the stipulated timeframe is mandatory to continue receiving payments.
Currently, the monthly allowance stands at Rs.750, and 32,867 individuals are eligible for this benefit.
