Rural Diggalpura Gets Space To Breathe: Clean Drinking Water Now A Reality

COLOMBO (News 1st); In the heart of Medirigiriya, within the Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province, lies the humble village of Diggalpura , home to Diggalpura Primary School, where around 200 little children learn and dream from Grades 1 to 5.

For years, these children and their families have struggled without access to safe drinking water. Every drop has come at a cost. A long, tiring journey of nearly five kilometers to fetch water from the nearest filtration system.

But now, that story is about to change. On November 7, 2025, the foundation stone was laid for a brand-new drinking water filtration system for both Diggalpura Primary School and the Diggalpura village, a project that will finally bring clean, safe water to their doorsteps.

This act of kindness is made possible through the generous contribution of Mrs. Amarasinghe from Borella, who is funding the project in loving memory of her late daughter and son-in-law.

Through this heartfelt initiative, Gammadda continues its mission to uplift the lives of rural communities, ensuring that the children of Diggalpura will no longer thirst for what they rightfully deserve: pure water and a brighter future.
