COLOMBO (News 1st); As part of Sri Lanka’s nationwide anti-drug initiative, law enforcement authorities have taken steps to deploy police sniffer dog units to assist in drug search operations within schools.
The move comes under the broader framework of the “National Mission for a United Nation”, spearheaded by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, which aims to eradicate drug abuse across the country.
According to the Police Media Division, the decision was prompted by growing concerns over the distribution of narcotics targeting schoolchildren.
The program is expected to be rolled out in schools island-wide in the coming weeks.
