COLOMBO (News 1st); A school principal in Eppawala has been suspended from duty following his arrest in connection with a major heroin trafficking operation.

The suspect, who was serving as the acting principal of Katiyawa Yaya 10 Primary School, was taken into custody after police discovered approximately 1.185 kilograms of heroin in his possession.

The arrest was made during a targeted operation, and the suspect was later presented before court along with another individual.

Both were detained for seven days under a detention order for further interrogation.

Following the arrest, the North Central Provincial Director of Education issued a formal suspension, barring the principal from entering the school premises or engaging in any official duties.

The directive emphasized that the individual must not be allowed to access the school under any circumstances.

Adding to the fallout, the suspect’s wife—who served as a councillor representing the National People's Power (NPP) in Peliyagoda—has resigned from her position in the wake of the scandal.
