COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) announced that the landslide warnings issued for eight districts due to prevailing heavy rainfall will remain in effect.
Accordingly, residents in the districts of Colombo, Galle, Badulla, Kandy, Kegalle, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura have been urged to remain vigilant.
Senior Geologist of the NBRO, Dr. Wasantha Senadeera, stated that rainfall between 100 and 200 millimetres has been recorded in several mountainous areas.
He warned that even light rainfall in the coming hours could trigger hazardous conditions.
He further advised residents living in hilly regions and near riverbanks to remain alert, and if continuous rainfall is observed, to move immediately to safer locations.
