COLOMBO (News 1st); The prime suspect in the assassination of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa, Ishara Sewwandi, has revealed chilling details of her escape and months-long evasion following the February 19 courtroom killing in Colombo.

According to investigators, Sewwandi confessed that she remained in hiding for nearly three months in multiple locations across Sri Lanka.

She spent over six weeks in Matugama and later moved to Matara, before orchestrating her escape to India by boat.

She further disclosed that the firearm used in the murder was given to the shooter on the instructions of Kehelbaddara Padme, a notorious gang leader currently in custody after his arrest in Indonesia.

Kehelbaddara Padme was extradited to Sri Lanka and is under investigation.

Sewwandi, along with five other suspects, was flown back to Sri Lanka last night (15) after being arrested in Nepal during a joint operation with Nepalese authorities.

The group arrived in Colombo aboard flight UL 182 around 7:00 p.m., following their departure from Kathmandu earlier in the day.

Police confirmed that Sewwandi, J.K. Bai, Suresh, and Takshi have been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division for further questioning, while Gampaha Baba and Jambugasmulle Babi were transferred to the Peliyagoda Range Crimes Division, and the Western Province South Crimes Division, respectively.

The murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 5 shocked the nation.

Investigations revealed that Sewwandi allegedly smuggled the weapon into court disguised as a lawyer and fled immediately after the shooting.

Authorities say Sewwandi’s identity was verified through advanced facial recognition technology with 100% accuracy, strengthening the case against her.
