COLOMBO(News 1st); The benefits offered to school students under the Suraksha Student Insurance Scheme have been increased.

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education announced that the related agreement has been updated accordingly.

With the new agreement, the health insurance for school students now offers Rs. 300,000 for inpatient treatment at government or private hospitals.

Outpatient treatment will be covered up to Rs. 20,000, and treatment for critical illnesses will be covered up to Rs. 1,500,000.

Under the improved accident insurance plan, students with total permanent disabilities will receive Rs. 200,000, and those with permanent partial disabilities will receive Rs. 150,000.

The Ministry stated that temporary disability benefits will range from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 100,000.

Under the updated life insurance policy, students from families earning less than Rs. 180,000 a year, and those under the "Aswesuma" program, will receive Rs. 75,000 if a parent or legal guardian passes away.

The highest payout for a single death is Rs. 225,000, which will be equally divided among all school-going children in the family.

This life insurance coverage is available separately for the deaths of both parents or legal guardians.

As the new amendments add to the earlier benefits, these updated benefits will only apply to incidents that occur on or after September 1, during the 2025/2026 program year.
