COLOMBO(News 1st); The Ministry of Health says that every day, 15 women in Sri Lanka are diagnosed with breast cancer.
It also reported that three women die daily due to this disease.
Health officials emphasize that breast cancer can be fully cured if detected early.
Cancer is the leading non-communicable disease that threatens lives.
Among these, breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women in Sri Lanka.
Because of this, October has been named Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Ministry of Health advises that women over the age of 20 should perform a self-breast examination every month.
Women aged 20 to 40 should have a clinical breast examination every 3 years, while those over 40 should have one every year.
The Ministry further recommends seeking medical help if symptoms or risk factors appear, such as lumps in the breast or armpit, dimpling of the skin, swelling, pain, or changes in the breast skin.
For care and advice, women can visit Suwanari clinics, Suwadivi clinics, early cancer detection centers, breast clinics, or surgical clinics.
