COLOMBO (News 1st); The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has conducted special raids to identify vendors selling rice above the controlled prices announced by the Government.
The Authority stated that special teams have been deployed across the country for these operations.
During recent raids, vendors selling Keeri Samba rice at inflated prices were taken into custody and produced in court.
The CAA added that three shop owners in Panadura, Matara, and Nagoda in Kalutara were each fined Rs.100,000 by the court for selling Keeri Samba rice above the regulated price.
One individual in Horana was fined Rs. 20,000 while authorities seized 25 five kilogram packs of Keeri Samba rice in his possession.
