COLOMBO(News 1st); Construction of the Central Expressway section between Kadawatha and Mirigama, which has been on hold, will resume on September 17 under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Work on this section was suspended in mid-2022 due to the economic crisis.
According to Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, a loan of USD 500 million has been obtained from the Export-Import Bank of China to recommence construction.
The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2028.
The distance between Kadawatha and Mirigama along this section of the Central Expressway is 37 kilometers.
Simultaneously, construction will also begin on the Kadawatha Interchange Hub and the first 500 meters of the expressway from Kadawatha.
An estimated Rs. 8.6 billion will be funded by the Sri Lankan government for this project.
