Kalu Ganga Reaches Minor Flood Level; Flood Warning Extended in Kalutara District

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the latest annoncement by the Disaster Management Centre, the Kalu Ganga has risen to a minor flood level in the Millakanda area.

The Department stated that the water levels of the Kalu Ganga have reached close to danger levels in the Ellagawa and Putupawula areas.

As a result, according to the Kalutara Disaster Management Centre, several houses in the Ingiriya Nambapana area have been inundated. 

Meanwhile, the minor flood warning issued for the Kalu River basin has been extended for another 24 hours from midday today.

The Department of Irrigation says the warning was extended considering the rainfall received in the upper catchment areas of the Kalu River basin.

Accordingly, residents in low-lying areas of the Kalu River valley in the divisional secretariat areas of Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Kalutara, Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara in the Kalutara District are advised to remain cautious, the department added.

The public and motorists traveling through these areas are urged to exercise extreme caution regarding the situation.

Meanwhile, The Attanagalu Oya remains at a minor flood level in the Dunamale area, but flood levels are gradually receding, according to the Gampaha District Disaster Management Centre.

The water level of the Kelani River at Nagalagam Street is also in a state requiring attention, however the waterlevels are now receding, according to the latest statement issued by the Department of Irrigation.
