COLOMBO (News 1st); A 40-year-old female entrepreneur from Keselwatta, Colombo, was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for allegedly smuggling six snakes into the country in violation of Sri Lanka’s biodiversity protection laws.
The arrest was made by officials from the Customs Narcotics Control Division in collaboration with the Department of Biodiversity, Cultural and National Heritage Protection, acting on intelligence reports.
Authorities revealed that the suspect had purchased the snakes—including a yellow anaconda—from Bangkok, Thailand, and traveled via Chennai, India, before arriving in Sri Lanka on an IndiGo Airlines flight last night.
The reptiles were reportedly concealed inside two pieces of luggage in a highly discreet manner.
