Rs. 29M Land Fraud: Ex-UDA Officials Get Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two former senior officials of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) have been released on bail after being presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects — Sampath Sumedha Poojitha Ratnayake, former Director General of the UDA, and Weerawansa Liyanage, former Director of Lands — were arrested earlier today (11) by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The arrests related to allegations that the officials were involved in a corrupt land lease deal that caused a financial loss of Rs. 29 million to the government. 

The land in question, located in Mayura Place, Colombo 05, spans 55.5 perches and was allegedly leased out temporarily under terms that violated proper procedures.
