Final Rites Of 14 Ella Bus Crash Victims To Be Observed Today

COLOMBO (News 1st): The final rites of 14 victims of the tragic bus tagedy along the Ella-Wellawaya road will be obseverd today. 

The mortal remians of the victims have been placed at their homes , the Tangalle Municipal Council is assisting in conducting the finals rites of the victims.

Deputy Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath confirmed that compensation has been arranged for the families of the deceased.

Police say initial investigations by the Department of Motor Traffic revealed that excessive speed, negligence, and failure to address mechanical defects had led to the accident.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler said these findings were disclosed during ongoing inquiry into the accident.

The death toll from the crash has risen to 15, while 17 passengers remain under medical care at the Badulla General Hospital, with two in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Police added that 32 people were on board the bus at the time of the incident.
