COLOMBO(News 1st); Police say that motor transport officers are scheduled to visit the Ella area today to inspect the bus involved in the accident.
They added that new information suggests the bus had mechanical problems.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims in the Ella bus accident have been handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations.
Tangalle Municipal Council Chairman, P.P.G. Nandasiri, stated that the final rites for all those who died will be held soon.
He said the bodies will be kept at the Tangalle Town Hall before being taken to their homes.
The death toll from the Ella bus accident has reached 15.
Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa, Director of the Emergency Unit at Badulla General Hospital, said that two people who were seriously injured are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
Seventeen others are still receiving treatment at the hospital as inpatients.
Out of those who died, 12 were officers from the Tangalle Municipal Council.
