COLOMBO (News 1st); Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that humanity is once again standing at a critical crossroads, in a powerful address marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War,.

“Peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum — the choices before us are clear,” Xi said, speaking to a gathering of world leaders, veterans, and citizens. “The people stand firmly on the right side of history — on the side of civilisation and progress.”

The ceremony, held in solemn remembrance, was more than a tribute to the past. It was a call to action for the future. Xi urged nations to reject division and embrace cooperation, warning that only through equality, harmony, and mutual assistance can the world avoid repeating the tragedies of history.

Reflecting on China’s own struggle, Xi recounted the immense sacrifices made during the War of Resistance. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the Chinese people united in defiance, resisting foreign invasion with unwavering determination.

He emphasized that the war was not just a national struggle, but a vital chapter in the global fight against fascism — one that helped safeguard human civilisation and world peace.

Turning to the present, Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to peaceful development and global unity. He praised the People’s Liberation Army as a “heroic force” and called on its officers and soldiers to accelerate the building of a world-class military that supports national rejuvenation and contributes to global peace.

He concluded with a message of resilience and purpose: “History bears the past and inspires the future. United in struggle, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable, and the noble cause of human peace and development is bound to triumph.”
