New Measures To Support Individuals with Physical Challenges

COLOMBO(News 1st); Minister Of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage announced that imported equipment and assistive devices for  Individuals with Physical Challenges will be exempted from customs duties.

He made this statement during a meeting of the National Council for  Individuals with Physical Challenges, chaired by the Minister.

The council also decided to involve all ministries in protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, introduce a special insurance scheme, and launch awareness and training programs for social service officers.

Additionally, several key decisions were made regarding financial support from the President’s Fund and improving public sanitary facilities to ensure accessibility for Individuals with Physical Challenges.
