Government To Introduce Vehicle Inspections On Expressways

COLOMBO(News 1st); Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake says a system will be introduced to inspect vehicles entering expressways by checking spare parts and making the necessary legal changes.

He said the relevant gazette notification will be issued in the future.

The Minister added that vehicles with substandard tires or other essential spare parts will not be allowed to enter the expressway.

He made these remarks at the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Affairs.

The Minister also said arrangements are being made to establish a welfare fund for drivers in the private transport sector, including three-wheelers and vans, and the related bill will be presented to Parliament for approval in the future.
