COLOMBO (News 1st); A police sergeant attached to the Ja-Ela Police Station has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
According to the Commission, the officer had solicited the bribe in exchange for not presenting a motorcyclist to court for riding across a closed railway crossing. The bribe was also reportedly taken to return the rider’s confiscated driving license.
The arrest took place on August 23 at the Traffic Division of the Ja-Ela Police Station, where the transaction allegedly occurred.
Following the arrest, the suspect was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court and was ordered to be remanded until September 4.
