DIG Arrested Over Illegal Treasure Hunt in Anuradhapura

COLOMBO (News 1st); Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Uditha Liyanage, who oversees the Colombo Division, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with an illegal treasure excavation in the Shravasthipura–Thibirikadawala area of Anuradhapura.

The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into the incident, which has already led to the detention of eight individuals, including the DIG’s wife, by the Anuradhapura Police.

The CID is conducting further inquiries under the direct orders of the Inspector General of Police.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police have arrested five suspects, including a retired Major General, over another unauthorized treasure hunt on a plot of land along the Beliatta–Dikwella road.
