Walas Kata Injured In Escape Attempt From Police Custody

COLOMBO (News 1st):Thilina Sampath, alias Walas Kata, currently in custody at the Western North Crime Division, was injured while attempting escape.

According to the police, he attempted to escape from custody at around 9:10 p.m. last night while being held at the Western North Crime Division.

The police said that the suspect’s handcuffs had been removed when he requested officers to provide him with prescribed medication. 

As an officer approached with the medicine, he allegedly pushed the officer and leapt from the third floor of the building, landing on the Colombo–Negombo Road.

He sustained injuries to his legs and an arm and is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under police guard.

Walas Kata is said to be a close associate of Kehelbaddara Padme, an organized criminal believed to control a major drug trafficking network in the country.
