Bribery Sting Near DMT: Broker Nabbed with Cash

COLOMBO (News 1st)l A bribery attempt near the Narahenpita Department of Motor Traffic has led to the arrest of a broker who allegedly solicited money to manipulate official vehicle registration documents.

According to the Bribery Commission, the suspect was apprehended during a sting operation while accepting Rs. 10,000 as part of a larger Rs. 30,000 bribe. 

The money was allegedly demanded to alter a motorcycle’s registration certificate, presenting it as an original document through internal contacts at the department.

The arrest took place inside a shop adjacent to the Department of Motor Traffic office on Gajaba Mawatha, where the suspect was caught in possession of the cash after receiving the documents.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is expected to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
