SJB Suspends Membership Of Kolonnawa Urban Council Member Sunil Kumara Costa

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has suspended the party membership of Kolonnawa Urban Council member Narahenpitage Susil Kumara Costa from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

This decision was made as he failed to follow the instructions of the party's management committee and working committee in appointing the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Kolonnawa Urban Council.

The Kolonnawa Urban Council convened this morning, where the National People's Power established power.

The Kolonnawa Urban Council meeting was headed by the Local Government Commissioner for the Western Province, Sarangika Jayasundara.

The National People's Power secured 9 seats in the Kolonnawa Urban Council, while the opposition secured 10 seats.

A heated debate soon emerged in the council chamber when opposition councillors called for a secret ballot to elect the new chairman.

Due to this situation, 9 opposition councillors walked out of the meeting.

Of the opposition councillors, only Susil Kumara, who received the highest number of votes from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, remained in the council.

However, he declared his support for the National People's Power.

Accordingly, Dhammika Wijemuni was elected the chairman of the Kolonnawa Urban Council following the secret ballot.
