COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit reports a rise in dengue cases over the past and current month.

Community Medical Specialist Prasheela Samaraweera stated that the spread of the disease may increase due to more mosquito breeding sites caused by the southwest monsoon.

A total of 25,259 dengue cases have been reported across the island over the past year.

The highest numbers are from the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, and Southern provinces.

Thirteen deaths have been reported during this period.
