China Signals Strong Investment Push in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China Wang Wentao, currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

Minister Wang highlighted the growing interest among Chinese investors in Sri Lanka, attributing it to the country’s current political and economic stability and the clear policy direction of President Dissanayake’s administration.

He noted that the presence of over 100 Chinese investors in his delegation reflects China’s strong commitment to expanding economic engagement with Sri Lanka.

The talks focused on fostering mutually beneficial trade and investment partnerships, particularly in the context of ongoing global economic uncertainty. Minister Wang reaffirmed China’s readiness to provide the necessary support to Sri Lanka during this challenging period.

A key objective of the visit was to follow up on the agreements reached during President Dissanayake’s recent visit to China.

Both sides discussed the timely completion of ongoing development projects supported by the Chinese government and the swift implementation of new initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth.
