Nearly 50,000 Power Outages Reported Amid Adverse Weather

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reports that approximately 50,000 power outages have occurred across the island in the past 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions.

According to CEB Media Spokesperson, Engineer Dhammika Wimalaratne, 29% of the outages, about 14,030 cases were restored between 8 p.m. on Thursday (29) and 8 p.m. last night.

The Central and Western Provinces have been the hardest hit, with 15,000 outages reported in the Central Province and 10,000 in the Western Province. 

Of these, 5,300 outages in the Central Province and 1,700 in the Western Province have been resolved so far.

The CEB urges the public to report outages and monitor updates using the CEB ASSIST mobile application, which provides real-time information on power restoration progress islandwide.
