COLOMBO (News 1st); Several major political parties have organized May Day rallies and processions at various locations today.
In Colombo alone, 15 May Day processions and celebrations are scheduled to take place.
Due to these events, the police have announced special security measures and traffic plans to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.
The National People's Power (NPP) will hold its May Day rally at Galle Face Green under the theme "The People's Power to Build the Nation," led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The rally is set to commence at 3:30 PM.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will host its May Day rally in Talawakelle under the theme "Labor Power for the Victory of the Village."
The rally will be attended by members of the SJB and its coalition parties, with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa leading the event, starting at 2:00 PM.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will hold its May Day rally at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda.
The rally, themed "Enduring Deception, Now Rise Up," is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) will conduct its May Day rally at the Lalith Athulathmudali Grounds in Kirulapone, under the theme "Power Against IMF's Deadly Trap and Indian Imperialism."
The procession will start near the BRC Grounds.
Additionally, May Day rallies and celebrations will be held at various locations including Armour Street, Keselwatta, near the A.E. Gunasinghe Statue, P.D. Sirisena Grounds, the Postal Headquarters, Hyde Park, the Public Library, Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre, Kosgas Junction, and Colombo Town Hall.
The United National Party (UNP) will not hold a major May Day rally today.
Instead, they have organized a series of public meetings across all electoral divisions to inform their supporters, according to UNP's Vajira Abeywardena.
The police have issued instructions to Senior DIGs, DIGs, and senior superintendents of police in charge of provinces and divisions to ensure adequate security for the May Day rallies.
The public is advised to be prepared for potential traffic congestion in Colombo and surrounding areas and to use alternative routes where possible.
