COLOMBO (News 1st): 98% of polling cards have been distributed islandwide so far.
Postmaster General P. Sathkumara said that individuals who have not yet received their official polling cards can obtain them from the nearest post office between the 18th and 21st of September, by confirming their identity.
However, the Election Commission confirmed that voting is still possible without an official polling card, as long as voters present their NIC.
Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake noted that having an official polling card would facilitate the voting process.
Department of Posts has received a total of 17.1 million polling cards. Additionally, the department has further received over 694,000 postal ballot papers.
Postmaster General P. Sathkumara confirmed that all of these have been dispatched to the district election officers.
712,319 state sector employees were eligible to vote during the 2024 Presidential Election.
