Police Officer Kills Three in Ampara Shooting Rampage

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A Police officer opened fire, killing three people in Inginiyagala, Ampara today.

The victims include a fellow Police officer and two civilians.

According to Police reports, the officer shot and killed a constable from the same police station.

The deceased constable was a resident of the Nelliadda.

The officer then proceeded to another house in the same area and fatally shot a mother and daughter.

The victims were aged 54 and 17.

The suspect, a police officer attached to the Karadugala Police Station, later returned to the station where he turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead upon admission to the hospital.

Police have recovered a T56 assault rifle, the weapon believed to have been used in the killings.

The motive behind the shootings remains under investigation.
