SLPP Urges Against Postponement of Presidential Election

COLOMBO (News 1st); During discussions with the Election Commission, representatives of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, led by Basil Rajapaksa, have strongly urged against any postponement of the presidential election under any circumstances. SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa speaking to reporters said that the SLPP is ready for an election, and during its meeting with the Election Commission discussed related matters at length. Flanked by SLPP supporters, including SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasa, the MP said that with effect from midnight on Tuesday (16), the Election Commission will be vested with the power to declare the Presidential Election. He said it is customary of the SLPP to visit the Election Commission for discussions ahead of any election, be it Presidential, Parliamentary or even Local Government.
