289 prisoners granted special state pardon for Poson Poya

COLOMBO (News 1st); 

A special state pardon has been granted to 289 prisoners in line with Poson Poya Day.

The pardon was granted according to the powers vested with the President through Article 34 of the Constitution.

Prisons Commissioner and Spokesman Gamini B. Dissanayake says prisoners who were sentenced for minor offences and who meet the relevant conditions were released from prisons across the island.
