Health Unions strike in Sabaragamuwa Province

TU action launched by 72 Health Trade Unions to be implemented in the Sabaragamuwa province today

The trade union action launched by 72 Health Trade Unions are scheduled to be implemented in the Sabaragamuwa province today.

Accordingly, Co - Convenor of the Health Trade Union Alliance Chanaka Dharmawickrama said the trade union action will be in effect in hospitals and health institutions in the Sabaragamuwa province on May 14 at 8 am to 12 pm .

The trade union action was implemented in the Central Province on May 13.

The trade union action was launched due to the delay in implementing the agreements reached during the discussions that took place on the 3rd of April between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance in addressing concerns related to economic justice.

According to the health trade union Alliance the issuing of circulars was done omitting certain health institutions during the implementation of those agreements.

The trade union action involves 72 Health Trade Unions including all paramedic staff, nursing staff, health care support staff, assistant staff, health administrative staff and biomedical engineering staff.

Meanwhile, The Sri Lanka Veterinary Association says the trade union action launched by the association based on several demands will continue as on May 14.

Its chairman Dr. Sisira Piyasiri says the association will not support any project implemented by district and divisional secretariats.
