COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued a cautionary notice regarding the intensifying hot weather across various regions of the island.

This warning comes as temperatures rise, prompting vigilance and adherence to safety measures.

Residents in the North-West, North-Central, Eastern, and Western Provinces are advised to closely monitor the heat conditions.

In specific areas within the Moneragala, Mannar, Ratnapura, and Vavuniya districts, the heat index—representing the perceived temperature by the human body—has reached cautionary levels, and the Department of Meteorology urges individuals in these regions to follow recommended health and safety guidelines during this period of elevated temperatures.

However, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night.

Mainly dry weather will prevail elsewhere of the island, it added.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Kalutara districts during the morning.

Starting from the 22nd, some parts of the island may experience periods of rain during the evening. However, it’s important to note that this rain may not be sufficient to alleviate the current hot weather.

Atula Karunanayake, the Director General of the Department of Meteorology, highlights that the sun will be at its peak from April 5th to 15th.
