COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's healthcare system is facing increasing pressure due to a surge in dengue cases, with concerns raised about delays in patient hospitalization leading to complications.

Health officials are urging the public to be vigilant and seek medical advice promptly if they experience fever persisting for more than two days.

According to Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, these delays in seeking treatment can worsen dengue symptoms.

The growing concern stems from Sri Lanka's inclusion among the 30 countries worldwide with the highest reported dengue cases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed this alarming statistic, listing India, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Thailand alongside Sri Lanka in this high-risk category.

Official data reveals that Sri Lanka has recorded a staggering 84,413 dengue cases so far this year, highlighting the severity of the spread.
