COLOMBO (News 1st); Poultry farmers in Sri Lanka allege that the government is attempting to sell off poultry farms to overseas companies.
The Collective To Protect the Poultry Farmers said that the 'Ranil-Rajapaksa' government has already inked an agreement to sell off the National Livestock Development Board.
Activists refer to the present administration as the 'Ranil-Rajapaksa' government, as President Ranil Wickremesinghe was voted in to office in parliament, by the Mahinda Rajapaksa led-Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Sanjeewa Karunasagara, the Convenor of the Collective To Protect the Poultry Farmers alleged that the government is also trying to sell the Karandagolla Chicken Farm along with the Poultry Breeding Farm.
He said that awarding the Poultry Breeding Farm to an overseas firm, as planned by the government, would eventually hand them the market monopoly.
