CID Arrests Suspect Over Rs. 6 Billion Government Project Fraud

COLOMBO (News 1st);The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a 44-year-old resident of Panadura for defrauding Rs. 6 Billion from a government project.

Police said the suspect obtained the funds in 2019 for a fish feed production project under the Ministry of Agriculture. 

This amount represents 40 percent of the total project value.

Investigations revealed that the suspect failed to implement any part of the project. 

Authorities are also probing the involvement of others who may have aided and abetted the fraud.
