Schools in Galle and Matara to reopen today (11)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Schools which were closed due to heavy rains and floods in the Galle and Matara districts, will reopen on Wednesday (11).

Southern Province Secretary to the Ministry of Education Ranjith Yapa said a special inspection will be made regarding children affected by the adverse weather.

He added that the term end exams which were delayed will also be held in the near future.

The number of people affected by floods has decreased to 20,957, with the Southern Province being most affected.

The Disaster Management Center said 11,681 people in the Southern Province are still affected.

The Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers over most parts of the island during the afternoon or night.

The Department predicts fairly heavy showers above 75mm in the Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Eastern provinces.

The Met. Department also predicts a few showers in the coastal areas of the western and southern provinces during the morning.
