Apostolic Nuncio commends reconciliation efforts in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Catholic Church has commended the Sri Lankan authorities for the efforts being made along the line of reconciliation.

Most Rev. Dr. Brian Udaigwe, Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka, speaking to churchgoers during the Annual Feast of the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu on Tuesday (15), said the Sri Lankan people should not allow the few unscrupulous elements that are indeed a minuscule minority to negatively influence and disorient the masses.

He said that it is unacceptable for any religious leader to take advantage of the medium of respect and privilege, according to them, to denigrate other religions.

"Religious leaders of all the religions should lead by example and should be unifiers and not agents of division," said Most Rev. Dr. Brian Udaigwe, Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka.

The Annual Feast of the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu culminated on Tuesday (15), and the event was also attended by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Holy Mass was presided over by His Excellency Most Reverend Dr. Brian Udaigwe - the Apostolic Nuncio of Sri Lanka, who was invited by Most Reverend Emmanuel Fernando, the Bishop of the Mannar Diocese.

Reverend Dr. Raymond K. Wickremesinghe, Bishop of Galle, Bishop of Anuradhapura Diocese, Reverend Don Norbert Marshall Andradi and other bishops were present for this occassion.
