Dry weather batters over 80,000 Sri Lankans

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Disaster Management Center announced that four districts in Sri Lanka have been negatively affected by the dry weather spell.

Approximately 28,000 families have been affected by the arid weather conditions, said the DMC adding that the affected areas are located in the Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, North-Western and Western Province.

It added that 89,489 people from 27,714 families have affected, according to the latest records.

The Disaster Management Center said that the worst affected areas can be highlighted as Delft Island, Kytes Island, Chavakachcheri, Maruthankerny, and the Chankanai areas in the Jaffna District.

Moreover, around 8,000 people in the Kinniya, Seruvila, Kuchchaveli, Werugal, Muttur, and Gomarankadawala areas in the Eastern Provice have also been affected by the dry weather spell.

The country's met department has forecast that there will be insufficient rainfall until October this year.
