COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has directed the Ceylon Electricity Board to provide an uninterrupted power supply during the period of the G. C. E. Advanced Level examination until the 17th of February 2023.

The PUCSL issued the directive citing the increased water capacity as hydro reservoir, and requested the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka to allow the Ceylon Electricity Board to release at least 2GWh per day more than the allocated water dispatch until the 17th of February 2023 for electricity generation.

The PUCSL said that it observed that the present water capacity at Hydro Reservoirs can generate 778 GWh of electrical energy, which is 100- GWh higher than the reservoir capacity for the same period in 2022.

At the same time, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has observed that the electricity demand in January 2023 dropped by 13% to 14% compared to the demand in the same period for 2022.

The PUCSL noted that the CEB is currently saving approximately 2 GWh per day by imposing power cuts.

It added that it is in the process of determining the electricity tariff based on the tariff proposal dated the 5th of January 2023 requesting a revision of the electricity tariff.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka said that as agreed at the meeting held with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, if any additional cost will be required to be incurred to provide an uninterrupted power supply until the 17th of February 2023, that cost can be recovered through the tariff determination.
