Sajith visits Damitha in Police; Calls for Govt to end suppression

Actress Damitha Abeyratne was arrested on Wednesday (7) while taking part in a protest-themed 'The Silent Hour' at the Parliament Round-about opposite Diyatha Uyana.

Sri Lanka Police said that the actress was arrested for unlawful assembly, unlawful entry to the President's Office, and other charges.

Sri Lanka's Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa visited the actress at the Fort Police on Thursday (8) morning.

"She was requested to be present at the Police Station on the 9th. However, she was arrested when taking part in a protest opposite Diyatha Uyana. Following these events, we cannot even fathom standing by the government. We request the government end the suppression," said Sajith Premadasa.
