NTC targets bus safety with GPS rollout

COLOMBO (News 1st): Steps have been taken to install GPS devices on all private buses operating on the Puttalam route.

The decision comes in response to frequent bus accidents reported along the route.

Director General of the National Transport Commission (NTC), Naomi Jayawardena, stated that the move follows an agreement between private bus operators and Sri Lanka Transport Board buses to run on a joint schedule.

The aim is to ensure buses operate according to scheduled times and to prevent unhealthy competition.

Meanwhile, a special team has been deployed to monitor the use of seat belts on buses.

Naomi Jayawardena added that the team will carry out inspections across all areas of the island.
