COLOMBO (News 1st); The Consumer Affairs Authority says that operations have been launched to arrest wheat flour hoarders.

Its Chairman, Shanta Niriella said that accordingly, raids will be conducted at the district level.

CAA officials have already been able to locate places where stocks of wheat flour were being kept hidden in several areas, including Gampaha.

Accordingly, steps were taken to release the wheat flour to the wholesale market.

The CAA Chairman emphasized that information with regard to wheat flour hoarders can be reported via the hotline 1977.

Meanwhile, bakery owners in Polonnaruwa say that due to the shortage of raw materials and the rise in prices, many bakeries have been closed.

They say that some of the ingredients including the bread flour available are of substandard quality.

The bakers also added that if the government does not intervene and provide a proper solution in this regard, the bakery industry will become unrecoverable.
