President assures fertilizer for farmers without delay

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Ranil Wickramasinghe announced today (20) that steps have been taken to provide the fertilizer required for upcoming Maha season to the farmers without any delay.

The President made these comments during a visit to Chief Sanghanayake of the North Central District, Dr. Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Na Thero.

In a discussion with Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Na Thero, the President said that the Government is focusing on improving the country's economy with emphasis on agriculture.

Moreover he assurred that the construction activities of the Maha Viharaya will be expedited, adding that the temples would become buddhist tourist attractions for tourists from Myanmar and other countries.

Senior Advisor to President, Sagala Rathnayake said that discussions with regard to a fertilizer subsidy has already been initiated with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

He further stated that the Government will facilitate for promotion of crops such as tea, coconut and rubber, and mentioned that provisions will also be made from the interim budget to import seeds.
